Dance is Life, Love, Movement & Memory…Bryce Dance | NYC to NC

As a photographer, I have always left myself open to photographing new things. The industry advice that suggested to specialize when I first started never resonated with me, thank the ever artistic mystic gods for keeping me curious and exploratory.

By the 7th year of running my business, I had enjoyed working with weddings, music, boudoir, families, headshots and a few other things that caught the fancy of my third mirrored-glassy eye. It wasn’t until doing an All Her Own Boudoir session for Heather Bryce in Burlington, VT while out on the road working as Gregory Isakov’s road-dog photog that I was given a photographic window into the world of dance.

When Heather wasn’t busy pampering herself with an All Her Own Boudoir sesh by yours truly, you could find her working as a dance instructor in VT. A couple years into our friendship, she eventually moved her company Bryce Dance Productions and Teaching to NYC.

A couple years into our friendshp, she asked if I could come out to NYC to photograph her dance team as they prepared for one of their larger and most moving pieces of their time.

A piece called ‘Moving Memory…
The piece focused on movements that explored the intensity that we go through when personal or family memory is fragmented, altered, lost or forgotten…Bryce Dance did a breathtaking job communicating the pain, love and beauty that comes from such difficult times.

I spent the month covering some of their rehearsals at Gibney as well as the actual performance … talk about being a fly on the all as a photographer.  Reps from the Lincoln Center where even in the house to see what the Bryce Dance buzz was all about.

Thank the good winds for dance and the way it can bring healing to us all & thank Bryce Dance for all the many memories of collaborating over the years.

Currently, you can find Heather and Bryce Dance in North Carolina taking shelter from Covid and teaching online dance glasses focused on movement and memories for people from all abilities, styles and ages … though we are apart, we can still move together.
